How to Deliver Customer Service Like an Athlete

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

By Drew Stevens, Ph.D.

Peter Drucker once stated that the purpose of every American business is one thing – creating customers. Research by the American Management Association show that your average HAPPY customer will tell 3 people about her experience with you. Research shows that, out of 25 dissatisfied customers, one customer complain, 24 are dissatisfied but do not complain, and 6 of 24 non complainers have serious issues with the organization. More importantly for selling professionals, customer service is included in 40 percent of every client interaction.

I remember the greatest words I ever heard when seeking to repair my computer after a 3 hour conversation, the representative getting tired stated, “You are a customer, and I will get this repaired for you no matter what”. When you supply grand slam customer service, your business costs are lower and your success greater.

Facing the Facts

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

By Bob Rausch, Ph.D.

Are you spending time and energy on doubts and uncertainty about the future?

At times everyone is concerned about their future.  When you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel it does have a tendency to create fear.  You have two options when faced with the unknown.

  1. Spend energy worrying about what might or could happen.
  2. Decide what you are going to do about it – Today.

Energy Performance Tip:

EASE UP!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

By Pamela A. Scott

This tough economy has many people living under a constant level of stress. We just keep working, working, working.

It is common for PMPs to have to jump into a fire-fighting role: having to jump into a situation, usually with a client, that is about to blow up because someone dropped the ball. We can’t eliminate all fires, but you can temper how you react to a fire-fighting situation.

Our brains, specifically the hypothalamus, are wired to keep things status quo. Even minor shifts in actions, attitudes or habits can throw the hypothalamus into panic mode. The body pumps out stress hormones that make the level of pressure you’re facing get more intense. It can be a vicious circle.

Bodacious Breakdown Strategy for your Work Breakdown Structure

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

By MaryGrace Allenchey, PMP

“Do It Right the First Time”. This paradigm has become the battle-cry, or at the very least a mantra, in today’s economic climate. Organizations cannot tolerate the time and cost associated with RE-WORK, and certainly do not want to RE-DO projects or programs.

Project Managers must ensure at the onset, that they develop an effective and comprehensive project or program IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY…the PLAN. It must include all the expected and required deliverables, as well as all the tasks required to produce and deliver products and services that meet stakeholder functional specifications and performance expectations.

The BODACIOUS BREAKDOWN STRATEGY FOR YOUR WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE (WBS) promotes a forthright, comprehensive and unambiguous project or program implementation and delivery Plan. It facilitates effective communications, collaboration, cooperation, commitment, consensus and celebration…providing to all stakeholders, mega-doses of the PM Vitamins C6 that is critical to every project and program.

How do Professional Recruiters View PMPs?

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Perception is reality. What other people perceive about us as individuals is their reality. Have you wondered what perception Professional Recruiters have of PMPs? Recent conversations with recruiters have shown that having a PMP Certification, especially for those positions in the 100K-125K range, has become ever more important.

Candidates who have their PMP Certification provide a professional recruiter a key differentiator that can be called out to the hiring manager. (see What do the Experts Think? in the right sidebar) Additionally, PMP Certification is used as one of the first filtering mechanisms when hiring managers have to sift through a flood of resumes. Requests for PMP Certified Project Managers have increased in other areas besides IT, software development and telecommunications. Manufacturing, engineering, construction and other industries have all seen an up-tick in their request for PMPs over the past five years.
